In April 2007, American Winds Flight Academy (AWFA) was granted accreditation by the Accrediting Council for Continuing Education & Training (ACCET). This honor allowed us to become one of only three flight schools in the United States to be Nationally Accredited!  ACCET is officially recognized by the U.S. Department of Education since 1978, ACCET is “a reliable authority as to the quality of education or training provided by institutions of higher education and the programs they accredit.”

American Winds makes
AVIATION HISTORY and NATIONAL NEWS
on February 24, 2006!

On Friday, February 24, 2006, American Winds Flight Academy trained the first instrument rated deaf pilot.   Stephen Hopson, age 45, has become the first deaf pilot in the nation to become an instrument rated pilot and log true PIC. Stephen will have the limitation placed on his license so that he must always have a qualified (current) instrument rated pilot as a co-pilot. During his training, he was held to the highest standards of American Winds... far exceeding the FAA PTS. His co-pilot will only communicate what is spoken on the radio to him and will make no decisions on his behalf. American Winds designed a system for him to communicate with his co-pilot.  In addition, other factors were incorporated into his training such as communicating other activity on the radio affecting his flight path and surrounding weather.
