Which FAA written test do I need to take for my Pilot License?
As part of receiving any aviation license, the applicant must pass an FAA written knowledge test. These knowledge tests will demonstrate the applicants level of competency in a multitude of aviation subjects.
The FAA has deligated the testing services to an outside contractor known as CATS (Computer Assisted Testing Service.) Under the guidelines of the FAA, knowledge test may only be given through certifed testing centers. American Winds is an approved testing center and can administer an array of aviation tests. If an applicant chooses to seek additional licenses and ratings, the knowledge tests will range in both allotted time and question length.

* CATS Testing ORDERING Hours *
CATS Testing has changed their hours for ordering tests. American Winds can ORDER tests from CATS during the following hours only:
Monday - Friday 9:30am to 8pm. Saturday 11am to 3pm. Sunday Closed.
American Winds TESTING is available during the following hours:
Monday - Saturday 9:30am to 7pm. Sunday 10am to 6pm. (Summer Hours).

If you choose to take a test on the weekend outside of CATS testing ORDERING hours, the test MUST be ordered in advance!!!

We request that you DO NOT pay CATS directly.

The Chiropratic Exam is the ONLY exam that must be ordered and paid through CATS directly.

If you are taking a non-aviation test, the school or agency you are working with may inform you they will be making all of the arrangements for the test and arranging the time to take the test. Please be aware in past experiences we have had many students show up to take a test here that we were unaware of and not notified about or were given the wrong testing time. This makes for a great inconvenience to the student taking the test and American Winds. To eliminate this error, please call us directly to confirm the details of your scheduled test.
- Current driver's license
- Instructor log book sign-off
- Flight computer or E6B and a plotter
- A calculator with NO memory. Batteries may be removed before and after the test
- Designated ID badge which must have your number on it
- Authorization from NETA
- Two forms of government issued ID
- There is no waiting period for a retest
Absolutely no other material will be allowed into the testing room. You will be on camera and will be video taped.
